Alice Raige

“Blessed are the weird people: poets, misfits, writers, mystics, painters, troubadours,
for they teach us to see the world through different eyes.” ―Jacob Nordby

So I am getting better at asking people if I can take their photograph. There are so many incredibly interesting people on the street I could spend all my days photographing them and speaking with them but I don't always have the courage to ask (and I don't like to take a person's image without consent). Anyhow, last night while walking home I saw two performers walking down the street; they had just finished a performance at a local nightclub. I wasn't sure if I was going to ask if they'd like their picture taken but as they passed I just sort of blurted it out and they were all too eager to oblige, especially Alice Raige [stage name] who is pictured. As soon as I asked she set down some things she was carrying and struck a pose. I took a few photos of both of them but this is my favorite. When I capture an image of a person I am always curious of two things. One is how the person will react (I always show it to them in camera and if they don't like it I will delete it), and also how others will react. There are so many incredibly different and unique people in this world and I am grateful for it; they make my life so much more interesting.

“There are two people in every photograph: the photographer and the viewer” ―Ansel Adams
