Adventus...

November and especially December are the darkest months of the year, and I don’t know about you but they feel especially dark this year (literally and figuratively). And during these months there are also multiple religious holidays (from the Old English, holy days). Three of them are Advent (and then of course Christmas), Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa; all use candles as metaphor. This said, today is the first Sunday of Advent (from the Latin, adventus; “the arrival”), which represents hope. And during these times there is hope, because light always overcomes darkness. Peace be upon you, and all of us. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5
